The renovation of underground pipe networks is not only a municipal project, but also a people's livelihood project. Recently, we learned from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development that in the future, our country will renovate more than 100,000 kilometers of underground pipelines every year.
The person in charge of the relevant departments and bureaus of the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development said that the underground pipe network includes municipal public pipelines such as water supply, rainwater, sewage, recycled water, natural gas, heat, electricity, communications, etc. within the city to meet the needs of life and production. Since 2021, the country has begun to intensively introduce policies related to the construction of underground pipe networks and water conservancy projects. Various developments related to underground pipe networks will continue in 2023. Among them, the National Housing and Urban-Rural Construction Work Conference held in December proposed that urban renewal actions will continue to be accelerated in 2024 and the transformation of urban underground pipe networks will be vigorously promoted. The proportion of water bodies eliminated will reach 80% next year, a project to improve urban drainage and flood prevention capabilities will be implemented, and treatment of more than 1,000 waterlogging-prone water accumulation points in about 100 cities will be launched. At present, the length of water supply pipelines in cities across the country reaches 1.103 million kilometers, the length of drainage pipelines is 913,500 kilometers, the length of natural gas pipelines is 980,400 kilometers, and the length of heating pipelines is 493,400 kilometers. Industry insiders speculate that if more than 100,000 kilometers of underground pipelines are renovated every year, it is expected to bring more opportunities to nearly 5,000 related companies and 1.8365 million employees.
It is understood that this year, my country will vigorously promote the transformation of urban underground pipe networks, implement projects to improve urban drainage and flood prevention capabilities, and further promote the construction of urban lifeline safety projects.
